The school, which has around 700 students in eastern Scotland, said children who learned a musical instrument tended to perform better in other academic areas.
Being part of classes at school has often resulted in opportunities to join groups and perform at live events, they added.
Morningside School of Music Principal Linda Boyd said: âIt is well established that children who learn a musical instrument enjoy many other benefits.
âWe want to encourage as many young people from Edinburgh and the Lothians as possible to have these opportunities.
âAs such, the first 100 kids who show up for a free trial will be able to access a lesson in instruments such as guitar and piano just to get a feel and see if they want to take it further.
âThese classes would be attended by highly qualified and experienced teachers who have a fun and modern approach to teaching music.
âLonger-term lessons can involve children playing music with others their age, forming groups and choirs, and performing at concerts and live concerts. “
