The mother of three members of rock band Kings of Leon, Betty Ann Murphy, passed away this week after the band canceled two concerts to be by their side amid an illness.

Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill and bassist Jared Followill, two founding members of the Nashville-based band, paid tribute to their mother in remembrance on social media Friday, September 24.

The day before, the group canceled both scheduled performances, including their September 24 slot at the Ohana Festival hosted by Eddie Vedder this weekend in Dana Point, Calif., Because of what they called in a online statement a “medical crisis” involving Murphy.

“My heart is broken,” Nathan wrote later. “My beautiful mother and biggest fan has passed from this life to the next. I will cherish the memories I made with her and her legacy will live on through me, my brothers and our beautiful families.”

Jared added, “You were to me the strongest, sweetest and most beautiful woman in the world. You were a better mom and grandma than any of us deserved. I’m SO proud that you are my mom. . Always has been and always will be. Love you so much. I will miss you every day until I am with you again. “

Betty Ann, mother of Nathan, Jared and Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill, fell ill while the band toured the United States for the past two months. She “took a bad turn” earlier this week, forcing musicians to return home to see her “until such time as [came] say goodbye, “they explained. Thursday’s concert in Mountain View, Calif., was canceled in addition to Friday’s one in Ohana. more dates scheduled for October.

Kings of Leon – the three brothers and their cousin, guitarist Matthew Followill – are on the road to support their latest album When you see yourself.

Our mom, whom many of our fans know and love, has been going through a medical crisis for several weeks and although it has been difficult to take the stage every night, it is the love and energy of you, our fans, that looked good on us.

Just before taking the stage at the Forum, we learned that she had gotten worse. It was a tough show to live with, but you supported us that night in a way we will never forget. Immediately after the show, we all returned home, where we will stay by his side until it is time to say goodbye to him. Our show tonight at the Shoreline Amphitheater and our appearance at the Ohana Festival this weekend are canceled but we wanted to say thank you to all of our fans, Eddie and the entire Pearl Jam family for supporting us during this time.
