Teenager arrested in Beaufort County for cashing fake checks


BEAUFORT COUNTY, NC (WITN) – A woman was arrested last week for submitting fraudulent pay checks in Beaufort County.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said Tahjena Assing, 19, had been charged with 9 combined counts of forgery of an instrument, use of a counterfeit instrument and obtaining property under a forgery. pretext.

MPs say the investigation began on November 22 when a store received 3 fraudulent paychecks from Assing within 5 days. Assing was arrested on November 30 when she returned to the same store and attempted to cash another fraudulent paycheck from another company.

We are told that when MPs searched his car, they found several identity cards and 35 fraudulent pay checks from 5 different companies. Investigators believe Assing has passed these checks in other jurisdictions in eastern Carolina.

MPs say the investigation is ongoing and Assing faces several other felony charges in Beaufort County. They say she was originally held on a guaranteed bond of $ 50,000.
