Sounders FC celebrates the past with Throwback Match this Sunday against Real Salt Lake
This Sunday, August 14, as Sounders FC hosts Real Salt Lake (7:00 p.m. PT/FOX 13+, Univision Seattle, Prime Video, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM) in a match presented by WaFd Bank day sponsorthe club celebrates the rich history of the Sounders franchise across the comeback themed matchproviding fans with a fun variety of game day items and activities.
Game attendees are reminded to expect heavier traffic in the SoDo area as the Washington State Department of Transportation continues its Revive I-5 work this weekendwith southbound lane reductions from 7:30 p.m. PT on Friday, August 12 to 5:00 a.m. PT on Monday, August 15. Additionally, OL Reign hosts Gotham FC on Sunday at Lumen Field in a 12:00 a.m. PT kickoff.
Fans are encouraged to explore public transportation options when possible. For those arriving by bike, the team – in collaboration with Cascade Bike Club – offers a free valet parking program this Sunday. Bicycles can be parked with the valet located on Occidental Avenue near the north stadium car park from two hours before kick-off and must be claimed no later than one hour after the final whistle.
Outside the stadium, fans can expect Sound check in Occidental Square Park. This public pre-game event is scheduled for 4:30-6:00 p.m. PT on Sunday. Fans can stop by the park to enjoy the party atmosphere with games, quizzes and throwback prizes from the Sounders and a special performance from the Seattle Steel Pan Projecta professional performance ensemble featuring some of the Pacific Northwest’s most seasoned performers and musicians.

Located outside the northwest gates of Lumen Field and accessible to all fans whether they have a ticket or not, Coca-Cola is on hand with the Coca-Cola Boombox, a mobile music experience powered by Coke Zero. The Coca-Cola Boom Box is the first-ever fully solar-powered interactive music experience, using a recycled shipping container. The Boom Box contains an interactive DJ experience, photo booth spaces and phone chargers. Coca-Cola also gives away sunglasses and t-shirts to those who pass by.
The first 12,000 fans through the doors on Sunday can expect to receive a free Sounders throwback hat, courtesy of the day sponsor WaFd Bank. WaFd Bank also donates 2,000 “Walt the Vault” piggy banks to the northwest gate at the end of the game.
At Lumen Field Pro ShopSunday offers a selection of limited edition throwback gearincluding a heritage-themed scarf designed to match the gift-of-the-day hat.
The RAVE Foundation organizes its annual event retro auction for Sunday’s game, filled with material from the Sounders FC archive. Items can be viewed in person on game day in the Northwest Lobby or online at Sounders.GiveSmart.com. Bidding is currently open and taking place exclusively online, closing quickly at the end of halftime on Sunday. The highlight of the auction is the Sounders FC supporters van – a 1986 Toyota pickup truck completely wrapped in rave green and sporting the club’s retro logos alongside modern embellishments such as an LED display panel and audio system with microphone for shout-outs and rallies.
Washington State Football Legends features a booth in the Northwest Concourse where fans can view demonstrations of the organization’s online museum, take a photo with a life-size Marcus Hahnemann cutout, participate in raffles and more.
As a nod to the birth of the Sounders franchise and as a way for fans to commemorate the comeback game, a special “Born in 74” photo booth is also available to fans along the West Concourse.
Star North Plaza Food Trucks Sunday are Swagg-n-Wagonserving fried chicken and classic sides of fries, collard greens and cornbread, and My and Pops, featuring vegan artisan popsicles inspired by Caribbean and Southern roots. Coming from a partnership with Intentionalist, these trucks support small local businesses owned by diverse owners.
The National anthem is executed by Jonathan Wrightwhile, just before kick-off, “Scarves! is managed by former USL Sounders and head coach of Ballard FC Jason Farrell.
