FLORENCE, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – Country Thunder is underway, starting Thursday in Florence, and traffic was heavy on Wednesday as people in motorhomes arrived to claim their spots.
On the eve of the first day of Country Thunder, traffic hits the city of Florence, a city of just over 27,000 inhabitants. Florence resident Donna Brito has lived here for seven years and says it’s time to go.
“From a financial point of view, the city’s income is good. But if you’re trying to move from one place to another it’s probably not so good. So, you know, take the one or the other. I think we prefer to take the income, “Brito said.
What you need to know about the festival with its return this weekend.
The Pinal Food Market is a local business here in town, and they said for Country Thunder weekend they won’t be stopping. To be exact, they earn almost 20% more than their average normal income, which they missed out on last year.
Sam Kasha has owned Pinal Food Market since 2006. He says they’ve seen people flock to his store before. But Thursday through Sunday are the big days. So how are he and other companies preparing?
“We do a lot of racing, we prepare ourselves. We know exactly what we need because it happens every year and we know exactly what people want,†Kasha said. “So we’re going to be looking for a lot of things. We are receiving more deliveries. “Including more deliveries to meet the large numbers of spectators.
“Cowboy boots, short skirts and short shorts, you know,†Brito added.
“They buy everything. For breakfast, they buy bacon, sausage, bread, and then some people buy alcohol and beer,†Kasha told Arizona’s Family.
