David Bowie Celebrated with the Limited Edition Dubreq Bowie Stylophone | Your money


HASTINGS, UK, September 17, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – David Bowie’s long-standing association with the world’s first “pocket synthesizer” is celebrated with the launch of a Bowie Stylophone.

The Limited Edition Stylophone commemorates Bowie’s long-standing association with the iconic instrument, which featured on his 1969 single “Space Oddity”, composed around the unique sound of the Stylophone.

The launch is the result of a collaboration between The David Bowie Archive and Dubreq, the British company that manufactures the instrument. Together, they released a selection of images of the music legend using the Stylophone. While legendary American record producer Tony Visconti, who worked closely with Bowie for many years, gifted the team with a photo of Bowie from his private collection.

“Space Oddity” appeared on Bowie’s second album which was produced by Tony Visconti – which recalls how young Bowie was thrilled to be chosen by the makers of the Stylophone to receive a free unit.

Mr Visconti said: “He was one of the first to own one and to discover this new, rather radical way of making music. He immediately put it to work and wrote a song around the instrument’s unique sound, which of course was Space Oddity.

“For many years to come, Bowie and Stylophone were names that came together in the same breath. He would be very proud of this new incarnation that bears his name.

Considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, Bowie continued to use the instrument throughout his career. As late in his career as in 2002, he recorded with Stylophone for the song “Slip Away” on his album Heathen.

The Limited Edition Stylophone goes on sale at www.dubreq.com on September 16 and comes with a commemorative booklet that explores Bowie’s music.
