Chinatown’s excellent Eldo Patisserie is closed

One of the best bakeries in Boston’s Chinatown has closed. Eldo Cake House, known for its perfect sponge cake slices loaded with cream and fresh fruit as well as treats like pork buns and coconut tarts, seems to have quietly closed this summerwith a commentator on a fan-run Facebook page suggesting the bakery may have succumbed to a problem all too common for small businesses: rising rents. Although no one else in the neighborhood specializes in exactly what Eldo does best, you can find fantastic cakes of other types at many great bakeries nearby.

Big changes underway for Storied Cambridge Music Venue

The Sater family, owners of 6 Brookline Street in Central Square, Cambridge – as well as their various businesses, including the venerable Middle East concert hall and restaurant, the new Sonia entertainment space and the Zuzu restaurant – have submitted plans to demolish the building and replace it with a six-story hotel featuring approximately 100 rooms, two music stages, three retail spaces, a restaurant and a bar. La Dame Grise declares her love for two Boston restaurants

Yesterday the New York Times published a list of 50 American restaurants he’s most excited about this year, including two in Greater Boston: iconic North End restaurant Neptune Oyster and relative newcomer Dear Annie, a Cambridge wine bar that has established itself as a fixture on the scene culinary experience in the city since it opened in 2021. I can’t argue with that.
